ARTS WRITER
Australian artist Julie Rees's interest lies in exploring the psychological complexities of human experiences and researching esoteric subjects. Julie carefully considers the subject before deciding on her medium, but photography and drawing are significant in her artistic process. Using art as research, she hopes to explore personal and collective experiences from a different vantage point and gain new perspectives.
In her doctoral thesis, she examined how desire is expressed in the digital world of online dating. However, more recently, Julie has shifted her focus to the spiritual, embracing spirituality, psychic predictions, and astrological themes. With over thirty years of practising and studying psychic phenomena, Julie intends to unveil her explorations into the unknown.
Julie Rees holds a Doctor of Visual Arts from Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia. She has exhibited her work nationally and internationally and is held in several collections.

2015 Our App Crashed: Expression of Desire in the Context of Online Dating This practice-based research explores how desire is modified and expressed in mediated texts sent via online dating applications.
