In this project, I aimed to establish a platform for audiences to explore the intricacies of desire as it appears in online dating. I believe desire profoundly shapes our emotional landscapes, and through this installation, I aimed to illustrate how these emotions drive transformation within us. By prioritising language as a foundational element, I wanted to foster an accessible dialogue that resonates with the contemporary experiences of online dating communities.
The cinematic elements used in the installation express the intense emotional highs and lows of online dating, urging us to reevaluate the roots of our romantic ideals and question their relevance in today's world. The three elements included in the installation—projection, sound, and text—invite the audience to reflect on their preconceived notions of love, which can influence our modern understandings of romance.
The 3D texts read:
‘Hey, gorgeous, nice pic. Let's meet for a drink (Apr 2, 7:29 am).’
‘You are hot (Apr 3, 6:47 pm)’
‘Had a good time last night (Apr 3, 8:41 pm).’
‘Sorry, I’m busy (Apr 5, 6:33 pm)
‘I can do tonight (Apr 10, 2:15 pm)’
‘We need to talk (Apr 10, 12:10 am).’
‘I don’t feel a spark (Apr 12, 6:52 pm)’
